Sam James, MMFT (Under Supervision)

You are so brave to reach out and start on the journey of healing!

This journey is empowering and here is a little about what you can expect while working with me.

I enjoy working collaboratively which means understanding your concerns, challenges, difficulty, and changes you would like in your life. I believe working together allows us to connect and move towards growth and change by breaking out of stuck patterns in your life.  Your courage to be curious about yourself and about new possibilities is admirable. You are taking that first step.

I am outgoing and love connecting with others. I am not shy to ask questions or seek clarifications. My style of communication is direct but with compassion and empathy.

My true passion is to deal with uncomfortable topics and provide hope, comfort, and support to my clients.

Our Journey Through Therapy is Collaborative

We build trust with one another as we start to understand your doubts, hopes, and past hurts so that you can understand and create healthy relationships with yourself and others.

Therapy is a process of learning more about yourself and understanding why you do what you do. It takes work. It takes time. And I will be right there supporting you the whole journey.

My Approach To Therapy

My approach incorporates components of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and solution-focused therapy (SFT) into sessions.

We are all unique, and I adapt and tailor our sessions to meet your needs.  My goal is to support you on this journey and help you get the results you desire.

Are you willing to be curious, do you desire to understand yourself and others, want to better yourself or your relationship, or find your voice? If so, therapy can help you achieve these goals. This journey will be worth your investment of time and money.

If your time is now, no matter the reason, I am ready to walk this out with you.

How I Got Started

I went through a difficult career change after I graduated college. This time in my own life was questionable and full of doubt in all areas of my life. I had never experienced confusion, disappointment, and hopelessness. This time of not knowing led me to seek assistance from someone where I could be free to feel sad, happy, exhausted, and quiet without judgment. Through that process, I found purpose and a career helping others on their journey.

My education and Training

  • Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy, Trevecca Nazarene University

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy Core Skills 1 and 2

  • EMDR level 1 and 2 trained

Here is what you can find me doing when I am not in my role as a student therapist:

  • I enjoy trying new restaurants!

  • I really like to watch movies (preferably Disney, action, and Discoveries).

  • I love spending time with my family.

  • I like to venture out and visit different small towns and explore their shops and areas of interest.

If you feel alone or lost I want to understand what that means to you.

“Your life story matters; grant me the gift of hearing it!” This phrase allows me to experience your story and journey with you.  You deserve to be seen and heard.

If you are connecting with what you are reading here,  please reach out! The next journey you could experience could be your best yet. It would be a pleasure to support you in it.

Let’s connect soon!  I can’t wait to hear from you and work with you!
